Proverbs 16:7 “When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even
his enemies to be at Peace with him”
The secret to making anyone happy is to find out what makes them happy. What can I do that I know will be acceptable, and appreciated. That's the key to any relationship that works. Learn to love what they love and hate what they hate.
The writer of the letter to the Hebrew church says that God loves righteousness, and hates unrighteousness, so it makes sense to pursue what pleases God. The simplest definition of righteousness is, being in right standing with God.
What is a righteous person? An uncompromising person. One who Ioves what God loves and hates what God hates. In right standing in every area of their life. Nothing missing, nothing broken, physically, emotionally, or spiritually.
The way we are made righteous is to simply believe the Gospel and believe that Jesus paid our debt. To accept the offer of a free pardon for our sins and wrong doing.
Nothing makes God happier than our believing Him. Nothing makes Him sadder than when He is not believed.
I go to the local library quite a lot. During that time I have become friendly with one of the staff. Sometimes we both have time for a coffee together.
One day we were having a coffee and the subject came up regarding what did it mean to be a Christian. Now you wouldn't find a nicer person than this one who asked me that question. His concept of Christianity was based on the misguided understanding that if he did the right thing, and went to Mass sometimes, he was doing ok. My response to that was simply this. Using his name I said, "It’s not what you do that's important, it's what you believe regarding God's Son Jesus
Christ." If you truly believe something, it will ultimately help you recognize what you can and can't do, and help you realize that many of the habits we may have developed over the years and can't seem to break. He can! And as far as wrong doing is concerned, Jesus is God's only remedy for the forgiveness of sins. This man's eyes widened in amazement. His response to that statement was "l never knew that."
I have a question. How many people do you know like that? Are you a person who up to this point in your life never realized that?
This gift of righteousness is available to all who believe, to all who put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ to be their Savior and Lord. This gift is of course, free to the recipients. Yet, it was made available at great cost to the giver. This gift cost the Father His only begotten Son. This gift cost the Son His own life, as He paid the price of redemption to buy us back from the slave market of sin and death.
Every person ever born needs this redemption price paid for them. "For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Now, for all who believe in the Lord Jesus, the righteousness of God is imputed to them, that is, credited as a gift to their heavenly account. Thereby, the Lord God justifies us "freely by His grace”. The Lord declares us righteous in His sight by giving to us "the righteousness of God which is through faith."
